Viewing Post for: Everest Base Camp 2010
Date: November 13
Location: Loboche-Kala Patar 18,200 ft - Everest Base Camp-Loboche
This is the day we have been dreaming about, dreading and preparing for. 5 am rise and on the trail before sunrise. The main goal was a small mt called Kala Patar. Be sure to listen to the audio post from its summit. From here you could see the magnificent route up Everest from base camp to ice fall to the south col to the summit. But Everest is just one one many glaciated peaks that formed the amphitheater of mountains around us. Flowing down the center is the gigantic Khumbu glacier. Everyone did very well which does not explain how hard it is to climb at altitude. Back at the glaciers edge Patrick wanted to walk out onto the glacier to the empty base camp site. This made his day 13 hours total all between 16,000-18,300 feet with the last two hours in the dark.
The audio better captures the rich and intense emotions of the day.
STATS AND STEPS
Abbreviated report due to all in bed exhausted by the time it was possible to write this. We do have this from Patrick: Patrick-Feeling like the blue plate special at the roadkill cafe.
