This picture is of Tom with a typical porter basket. He fell over after this picture!
Rocky but gentle climb through the long Nanga pa La valley. Towering 20,000ers, snow covered lining the side. We are in yak land. Grass valley with bushes, boulders and a few rocky scattered villages. The border was closed from Tibet since April so no yak caravans coming through. Few other trekkers in this valley. We are sitting in a small stone hut, waiting for the evening dung fire to be lit. 30 degrees out at the moment. Tomorrow is a rest day so we will go for a hike and look for yak butter tea.
Drama report; the thin crumbly edge above the rushing river was interesting. There is some hazard from the popping dung in the stove.

It sounds like a really great trip, but i think we will stick with enjoying your experiences from our warmer spot and comfortable chair! Take care and capture everything so you can pass it on!

I hope you don't try on a porter basket as Tom did for the posted photo. Looks like it would cause about a year's worth of chiropractic care! Tim is off visiting friends, I am packing up items in the basement for next weekend's Toy Show, and Gretchen is happily napping nearby. We tried Mo's Barbecue on West Ave last night and it was pretty good. I don't know how that stacks up against yak butter tea and dinners around a dung fired stove, but I am sure it is a memorable experience for you. Maybe

Looks like you are having fun! We think of you often and enjoy all the updates! Katie's class is following you all and like me have unsuccessfully sent several messages (that didn't post). Katie is on a camping trip with her girl scout troop on the coldest night of the year so far - it was 31 degrees when we woke up this morning! She didnt really want to go until she found out that they were going to Golden Corral for dinner last night :). We love you lots, be safe!

Remember the old days when "yak" meant something different. SU lost to Louisville. Andy wants you to "man up" and go to the summit. We all say keep on ar-trucking!

I think a shovel for BABS, and some farm chores would be THE BEST for the farm and fam. Keep on keepin' on.

We enjoyed your family at dinner tonight at the Plum House. Catching "rice balls" was a hoot! Sounds better than a camp fire of yak dung...:) Good night

So ya know - you guys can think about that to get you through. Like how glad you all are that we were born. Hang in there and keep going!!! You can do it! Love to all of you! xoxo - Sadie

Sounds like all is going well for the group. We are very excited for you. The Fire Marshal has ruled that no yak dung can be transported to Rochester--too dangerous.

Annalie is away for the weekend and I'm waiting for Linda to come over. Just got back from the grocery store and three things reminded me of you: fruit flies on the kiwi, it sounded like someone at the deli counter said, "Can I have the meatlump?" and a cashier shouted to another, "Patrick!" Miss you. Glad you're wound like a clock and ready to rock!

Kathi..yesterdays hats reminded me of a Seinfeld episode..hope they aren't "rat hats"...sounds like you are in a quiet place today...while looking looking in mountain books found this quote from Tenzing Norgay: "...what is Everest without the eye that sees it? It is in the hearts of men that make it big or small." As i leave for the days hike i send prayers for a strong heart as you climb into the realm of the imagination. Have a pleasant evening and stay warm...good thing fo

Hey, first conmment on this post! Sounds like you guys are having an incredible journey. We're still following along closely and are enjoying the updates. Its looking like the baby will come today or tomorrow. Emily had contractions through the night and we'll probably head off to the hospital soon. We'll comment again sometime afterwards. Enjoy that Yak dung fire!
