Viewing Post for: Inca Trail 2015
Date: Thursday, August 20
Location: Amaniti Island. Lake Titicaca
The picture is our group on a local reed boat. It is rowed by two people. Some of us took a turn rowing. We stopped at a floating island and met with the woman who was the president of the island. She was a riot explaining the life on the island. We were lucky to be part of 20 people in netting fish. The boats circled the area and slowly by throwing the oars deep in the water scared the fish into the net. Every thing is made of reeds, the houses, the boats, the mats. You can even eat the reeds which we did.
Next it was onto a beautiful island in the middle of the lake. Maybe 1000 people live there spread out in small houses. We split into 2 ' s to go to our host families. Here we ate local quinoa soup and a wild mint tea. In the afternoon we climbed to a previous Inca temple at the top of the island. Wonderful sunset.
The highlight may have been though when our families dressed us up in local colorful clothing (pic tomorrow) and we met in a community center to twirl and whirl and dance.
Dark comes early since the only electric is solar. The stars and moon over the lake, spectacular!
