Viewing Post for: Inca Trail II 2013
Date: July 30, Tuesday, day 1 Inca trail
Location: Llacapata, first camp on Inca trail. 3 miles hiking. 9200 feetish
Yes! We have started. After for some a year or more in planning we are walking. We are on a sacred trail. the Inca ruler was carried and bathed in the many icy baths we passed that are still running. we can hear the roar of the Urubamba river. We are passing back into time.
When you leave someone here you say in Quechua, the local language, "Tupanachiscama", meaning
See you tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, if not in this world then the next,
There is no word for goodbye.

I was thinking of you guys on the first day of your hike...especially when I was indoors, working out at my gym. Yuck! Would much rather be hiking the Inca trail. Hardest workout ever.

When you start getting tired, just remember a quote from the infamous Richard Simmons to keep you motivated: No tricks, gimmicks, special pills, special potions, special equipment. All it takes is desire and will. And then also remember he said this, just because it's funny: I don't know about you, but every time some joker points me out as I walk through an airport wearing extra-small Dolfin shorts, a tank top and leg warmers, I get a little upset. YOU CAN DO IT!
