DESCRIPTION:
Hiking in Nepal is not hiking as you have known it in the USA. We
will be doing an organized trek. This means that porters will carry
your gear except for a few personal items such as water bottle and
camera. The trails are the highways of Nepal. There are no parks as
we have them. You will share the trail with school children, cows,
horses, mothers on the way to market, and farmers. There will be a
cook tent to eat in. You will sleep in tents that are carried by the
porters. This trek has been chosen for its outstanding views of the
Himalayas; however, we will walk much of the time at elevations over
10, 000 feet. The trek is also chosen because of the number of Bhuddist
Monasteries that we can visit. Distances will vary from 6 to 8 miles
per day. Linear distance is not the whole story though. Part of the
pleasure of the walk will be the breath taking views of the Everest
area. Most of the best views are on ridges or small mountains. This
means we will be walking up and down. The distances and elevation
gains are geared for people in normal physical condition. This is
not a mountaineering expedition; however, exercising prior to the
trip will make the trip more enjoyable. You will probably be walking
in groups of 3 or 4 people that occasionally meet up with the whole
group. This will allow people to walk at a pace that is comfortable.
Footing is generally good although loose rock and sometimes mud are
encountered. Topographic maps and trail maps that we have in the USA
are not available.
